Book review - With a Mind to Kill by Anthony Horowitz

The third James Bond novel by Horowitz starts at the funeral of M. But this a deception. Anyone who knows me last Bond book Ian Fleming wrote, The Man With the Golden Gun at the start a brainwashed Bond is sent to kill his superior but the attempt fails. When information gets to the British Secret Service of a cabal of high ranking Soviet agents are planning a world shaking event an now deprogmed Bond is tasked with stopping it. With the exception of an action set piece on London's Tower Bridge this is a low key novel. The ending suggests an ending for the character though Horowitz in the afterword admits others taken the character further. All in all an interesting take on Bond

Jack Higgins, a look back

This weekend saw the announcement of the death of Harry Petersen better known by his own name of Jack Higgins. The author of countless best selling thrillers. Some of which were adapted for film and television. The 2 most famous examples being The Eagle has Landed starring Michael Caine, Donald Sutherland and Robert Duvall and A Prayer for the Dying Mickey Rourke and Liam Neeson. The latter caused a lot fuss when Rourke expressed his support for the IS A when promoting the film. Higgins novels tended to be RIP roaring affairs, for an example of this check his 2000 novel in which British black ops team takes on the Mafia, London gangsters,Irish and Islamic terrorists combined.
