Just been added to the BritBox Is Star Cops. It would come to represent the BBC's last true (barring Doctor Who) attempt at science fiction. It ran for only 1 series in 1987. Set in 2047, it starred David Calder as Nathan Spring the head of an outer space police force that investigated such crimes as radio active waste smuggling. The show was created by Chris Boucher who had worked on Doctor Who in the 1970s while another Who writer who worked on Star Cops was Philip Martin. The show was beset by so many production problems that one script was left unmade. What of the show itself? there are many interesting ideas on show with one in particular a computerised box that that Spring consults. A forerunner of Alexa?
