When Lee went for dinner

 The recent death of novelist Anne Rice brings to mind the fuss  she caused over the casting of Tom Cruise in the film version of A Interview with a Vampire. On YouTube you can find a video of Lee Child talking about how he was was invited to the most expensive restaurant in New York by film producers he knew he was going to be told that his famed creation Jack Reacher would be played by Cruise,and he was right.

 It was a bad night for ITV. The final of I'm a Celebrity Get me out of Here was seen by a disappointing figure of 6.5 million viewers. New talent show Walk the Line was seen by just by 3 million viewers.

Richard is out of the castle

 Richard Madely is out of this year's I'm a Celebrity Get me out of Here. He fell ill after doing a task that had going down a sewer and having rotten vegetables dumped on him.He was taken to hospital for treatment, but because of pandemic safety rules he can not go back to the castle where the show is being staged.

Chris comes back to the Beeb.

 Starting tonight on BBC1 is Outlaws. Among the cast is Christopher Walkenbest known for such as his intense Oscar winning part in The Deer Hunter and as bad guy Max Zorion in Bond film A View To a Kill. This is not the first time he has worked for the BBC, in 2024 he appeared in the thriller Turks & Caicos.

 Tonight's run of Top of the Pops repeats reaches a bit of milestone. It marks the end when Radio One DJs were used as the main pool for presenters. For the next 2 and a half years the show was presented by unknowns.  But the DJs returned taking turns with celebs.

Victor's back from the grave

 Tonight on BBC4 a repeat run of One Foot in the Grave starts. Starring Richard Wilson as forcibly retired Victor Meldrew. Each episode sees Victor rail against the modern world while his long suffering wife Margaret (played by Annette Crosbie) listens on. Featuring scenes of surreal humour such as a lorry load of garden gnomes being machine gunned. But also rather grim moments like Victor seeing care home residents being abused by the staff. The show ran for ten years from 1990 picking up many awards along the way tonight you can remind yourself why.

John Challis (1942-2021)

 The death has been announced of John Challis. Best known as dodgy car sales man Boycie in Only Fools and Horses. His early career was him play bad guys in the likes of The Sweeney and Doctor Who. An early comedy role was Open All Hours which saw him working with David Jason before Only Fools and Horses a. Boycie would get his own spin off with The Green Green Grass which was inspired by Challis own job to the Welsh borders.

Una Stubbs (1937-2021)

 The death has been announced of Una Stubbs. One of Britain's grand ladies of show business. She started her career as a dancer before finding fame starring in a series of films with Cliff Richard including Summer Holiday. How played the daughter of the loud mouth Alf Garrnett in Till Death Us Apart. In children's favourite Worzel Gummindge she played Aunt Sally. In recent years her biggest was as Mrs Hudson in Sherlock. Other TV shows How appeared included both Eastenders and Fawlty Towers.

Sleeper war

 Jed Mecurio is without doubt one of the most successful names in British TV, penning dramas like Line of Duty and Bodyguard. However he may be locked in battle against one of Hollywood's biggest studios. He's has just published a graphic novel called Sleeper, however this has put him in the crosshairs of Warner Brothers whose DC Comics in the early 2000s out a series of the same name. Warner Brothers have made attempts to turn their series into a film with names like Tom Cruise and Ben Affleck attached. A lot of people will be looking on.

 The comedy about a Jewish family, mum Jackie (Tasmin Greig)  dad Martin (Paul Ritter) and forever bickering sons Adam (Simon Bird) and Jonny (Tom Rosenthal) and their chaotic attempts to have traditional dinners not help by weird neighbour Jim played by Mark Heap. These are the 10 best episodes.


1. Mr Morris

Gran has an New boyfriend who is not a very easy going person. As the evening goes from bad to worse the family finds themsleves locked out of the house.

2. Mercedes

It is Adam's birthday and after getting a rather tasteless present from his dad finds his mum can't cook dinner. So the family goes to a Chinese restaurant where they come across an old girl friend of Martin's  who always talks about her Mercedes.


3. Mr Morris Return

the troublesome Mr Morris has made up with Grandma. He proposes marriage to her to the horror of Jackie. They then go to the local 10 pin bowling alley where Jim is there dressed in a Dog with his own addition.


4. The New Car

Jonny has been given a promotion at work and with it an new car. But an embarrassing phone call reveal that it may not have legitimate reasons

5. The Anniversary

It is Martin and Jackie's  anniversary but Jonny has a couple of secrets. Then Jim turns up having accidentally taken his dog's sleeping pills.

6. Christmas

Grandma and horrible Grandma have come for Xmas. Though the latter has brought their own dinner.

7. The Fox

the boys were discover that their dad has been keeping the body of a dead fox. What then follows is a desperate attempt to stop Jackie discovering it.

8. The Loft

Martin and Jackie are having and the boys try to discover why. Meanwhile Jonny Daley claims to have broken his arm to get out of cleaning the  loft.

9. The Funeral

Martin's uncle has died and horrible Grandma wants him to do a reading. But as always things go wrong especially when Jim turns up.

10. The Sofa bed

The first ebutpisode of the show. Martin is giving away a sofa bed but between the boys bickering and the man supposed to take away the sofa bed getting bad news. Things do not go to plan.

 It has been announced that BBC4 will now will be mainly repeats. The channel became famous for such original output as the political satire The Thick of It. Now the channel schedule will be made up of repeats though events such as BBC Young Musician of the Year will stay on the channel.

Parky in his shed

 The BBC has announced that Michael Parkinson will present a retrospective of his chat show career. This is not the first time he has done one. In 1994 he presented one. It was made in very unusual circumstances. Michael recorded links sitting in front of a black sheet in his garden shed! Weather Michael has to such measures again remains to be seen.

Game back on

 Just added to the Britbox  streaming service is mid nineteen nineties sit com Game On. Starring Samantha (as she was then) Janus, Matthew Cottle and for the first series only before he tried to break into Hollywood Ben Chaplin. The show could be considered the British answer to.Friends but it had more edgy humour. One of the curious facts of the show was that it was co-write who was known for Prestige dramas like the 1995 version of Price and Prejudice which came out in the same year as the first series of Game On.

 Yesterday on two completely different quiz shows the same question was asked. On both Tipping Point and Mastermind contestants were asked which cartoon mouse did Gene Kelly dance with in the film Anchors Away. The answer given both times was Mickey Mouse. The correct answer is Jerry.

Who wants to host a game show

 In years past game shows used to be presented by entertainers like Bruce Forsyth and Bob Monkhouse. Nowadays they seem to come from all fields. Tonight Gordon Ramsay joins fellow chef Gino do Campo in hosting (Family Fortunes) one. Tonight Gordon Ramsay 's Bank Balance starts. We just have to see if Gordon proves to be popular as Gino.

 The last edition of Who Wants to be a Millionaire was 2 winners o £125,000. Though it has to be said that most contestants had a lack of knowledge problem.
